MTX-DE8-WM

8 Channel DMX to Analog Interface

The MTX-DE8-WM decodes signals from DMX control desks to analog dimmers, LED, and fluorescent lighting fixtures whose drivers / ballasts accept 0 to +10VDC dimming control. It is used to integrate controllers into theatrical or television lighting systems. The decoder is mounted on a wall, and each driver is connected to one of eight channels on the internal terminal strip. Up to 64 decoders may be chained together for systems of up to 512 fixtures. A thumbwheel switch on the front panel selects the starting channel, and an LED indicates presence of the DMX signal.

For drivers that don’t dim all the way to off, there are on/off options to enable switching power to the drivers. Outputs can be configured for all analog or 1, 2, or 4 on/off outputs. All controlling analog channels must be set to zero for the on/off output to be 0 instead of 10 Volts.

Also available as the MTX-DE8-WMH, the Highest Takes Precedence (HTP) Output version has source-only outputs allowing multiple 0-10V outputs (like our HLC line of House Light Controls) to be wired together controlling 0-10V devices. This enables system configurations that allow for basic light control without booting up the DMX control console.

The MTX-DE8-WM+ (HTP w/ HTL) integrates our MTX-HTL signal converter providing both Architectural 0-10V sink-only outputs and Theatrical 0-10V source-only outputs. This is ideal for popular LED High Bay lights.

 0-10V Signal Conversion

MTX-HTL

8 Channel, 0-10V Theatrical to Architectural Converter

The MTX-HTL converts between two 0-10V lighting control standards that are not as compatible as their identical names imply. While both standards use the same voltage range to convey the same brightness information, the flow of current between inputs and outputs is reversed. In the theatrical standard (ESTA E1.3, Entertainment Technology - Lighting Control system - 0 to 10V Analog Control Protocol), controllers source current to the devices. This can allow simply wiring multiple outputs together resulting in a highest-takes-precedence function. However, the IEC Standard 60929 Annex E typically used in architectural lighting is common in most LED drivers and fixtures. This standard has the controls sink current from the devices to control brightness which would result in a lowest-takes-precedence situation if multiple controllers were wired together.

Since theatrical controls have very limited or no current sinking capability, they will not be able to adequacy pull down the 0-10V signal especially in cases where multiple lights are controlled in parallel. Our “Highest-takes-precedence To Lowest-takes-precedence” (HTL) converter with powerful output drivers can be used to drive many architectural devices in parallel from multiple theatrical standards based controllers.

  • 8 Inputs compatible with ESTA E1.3

  • 8 Outputs compatible with IEC Standard 60929 Annex E

  • Terminal strip inputs and outputs for 12AWG to 24AWG wires

  • Power from 12VDC screw terminals or 2.1mm center positive jack

  • LED Power Indicator

  • Dim. 3” x 3” x 0.75”
